Winemaker’s Tasting Notes
Situated at the gorgeous, natural transition of rugged, steep, oak studded hillside to the fertile, lower slopes of Western Alexander Valley, the quarter century old Blue Rock Vineyard yields mature, balanced Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, Petite Verdot, and Syrah. All six of these varieties are featured in our Baby Blue Red Blend. The vintage of 2022 was
memorable for its brevity. All grapes were harvested before the end of September. Terms like “Heat Dome” and “Rolling Blackouts” reemerged in our vernacular. This Cabernet Sauvignon based blend truly embodied an early and intense harvest. Vibrant red and black fruit aromas, lively acidity, structured and mouth coating tannins and a jammy, luscious viscosity. The blend was assembled one month prior to bottling to let all the unique components meld and harmonize.
The aromatic profile is rich with bing cherry, raspberry, cinnamon and dried sage. The palate has excellent weight supporting flavors of dried cranberry, Cherries Jubilee, and vanilla cream.
Food Affinities
Grilled beef, lamb or pork are easy suggestions, but duck or chicken will do just as well. Hard cheeses, nuts and dried fruits will also go nicely if you are just snacking and sipping.
Ageability
Baby Blue’s energy and texture is captivating when young, yet will gain elegance and refinement with up to 10 years of ageing.
